The image opposite shows a design of glassware for Soxhlet extraction of compounds using solvents. The glassware shown opposite consists of the following.

Round bottom flask for boiling the solvent. (available in different volumes).

Soxhlet extractor  body for collecting the solvent as it is distilled & extracting the compounds of interest out of the thimbles. The type shown opposite has a ground glass tapered socket at the top restricting the size of samples used & is used for lower siphoning volumes.

Pressure equalising funnel used in the recovery of the solvent at the end of the extraction. The stopcock is left open during the extraction then closed to recover the solvent at the end for future use.

Condenser (Allihn) for refluxing, different types available.
