The type of corrosion vessel shown opposite is manufactured from borosilicate glass and has a flat ground glass flange on the top which allows an air tight seal when a multi-port lid is clamped in place (clamp not visible in image). Instead of a standard flat bottom vessel all the same diameter the vessel has a small portion at the bottom of a smaller diameter where the corrosion coupons are immersed on the end of the corrosion probe or corrosion coupon holder. A flat base is put on to ensure the use of magnetic stirrers or hotplates if required.
