Vacuum is applied throughout the entire system before introduction of the Crude/Gas sample.  Once introduced to the lower vessel the Crude can be circulated through a mixer to extract gas held within the oil and the larger upper atmosphere which is connected to the lower vessel contains the complete gas sample ready for chromatographic analysis by means of a heated transfer line.  The set up has upper and lower water jackets for temperature control.

The comprehensive array of equipment around the framework is for differential temperature control between the upper and lower vessel alongside with temperature readout and vacuum transducers for known exact atmosphere.
